THINGS YOU'LL WANT TO KNOW...

If you have any questions about any of these items, please send me an email.  You may also want to check back, periodically, for updates closer to the end of the quarter.

           GYM ATTIRE

In order for kids to participate safely, they'll need to wear gym/tennis shoes...even when having class outside.  Crocs, sandals, dress shoes, boots, and high-heeled shoes are not good choices for the activities we will be doing in class.  Shoes that are muddy will need to be cleaned a bit prior to joining activities as well.  Scroll through the shoe pictures on the left.

Please make sure girls have shorts or something to wear under dresses and skirts.  THANKS!

           HEALTH CONCERNS

Students with health concerns will be sent to the nurse prior to participating in class...especially those with asthma.  We have an entire day set up with the nurse to talk about health concerns and PE participation.  If your child will need to sit out for some reason, please send a note with him/her.  Extended exclusions will need doctor notes.  Your children may have sore muscles from time to time.  Please be aware that we will push them to meet their goals & improve their personal health & skill development and they may be tired.

           GRADING POLICY

In addition to various skill rubrics, we will be using QR codes & self-assessments or goal sheets on the iPads.  Skill grades will be based, primarily, on the progress and improvement and completion of activities and assignments.  Grades will also be based on participation & effort and behavior & safety.  Self-assessment may be used to determine the next course of action.

           DISCIPLINE STEPS

I will have a "3 STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT" rule this year.  STRIKE 1 = a student receives verbal warnings and may be moved to an alternate location.  STRIKE 2 = the student goes to the "Penalty Box" to self-time for 1 minute prior to returning to activity.  STRIKE 3 = the student goes back to the "Penalty Box" to fill out a note home regarding the behavior that resulted in the second visit to the "Penalty Box."  This note will go home to get signed by a parent or guardian as a way to communicate noticed behaviors.    If behaviors continue after having a conference with the student, the parents will be called and we will work on a solution together.

For information on POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT, please see the NEWSLETTER for this year in the RESOURCES tab.

           ANYTHING ELSE?

Please teach your children how to tie their shoes tightly.  We've had many students only tucking their laces in.  Shoes tend to fly off or get left behind quite often, causing injury to themselves and/or others. In order to keep everyone safe, students without secure shoes will sit out until their shoes are tied or secured correctly.  Here's a super fast way to tie your shoes.
